Dish Network Popular Questions and AnswersBy: Kaptain
Use these most common questions and answers to help guide you through the Dish Network process.
Q: How is DISH Network Installed?
A: Self-Installation kits are provided with all hardware and an instructional video to assist the customer. Additionally, DISH Network provides Professionals to install the unit and system. Tall Trees cause interference with the satellites and dish. Finding the highest elevation for the dish is optimal or trimming trees is an additional solution. Mount antenna up to 100 feet away from house with no additional signal amplifier.
Q: Can the viewer watch separate programming on two televisions with the DISH Network system?
A: In order for a setup of this type, the viewer needs a satellite TV dish antenna with a dual output LNBF (Included in the Model 2812, 3700, 3720, 3822, 4720, 4722, 5000, 5022, 6023, 7100, 7200 and the JVC D-VHS systems), and a separate receiver for each television. The viewer is not able watch 2 different DISH Network channels simultaneously with only one receiver.
Q: Is the viewer required to install the dish antenna outside the home?
A: The satellite dish antenna needs to placed outside in order to receive the signal. Certain window materials allow the signal to pass through although this is not ideal as the signal loses strength.
Q: Will the satellite dish cause conflicts with homeowner’s associations and other laws or restrictions with apartments?
A: The dish antenna sizes are 18" and 20" and comply with the Satellite Consumer Bill of Rights, a regulation released by the FCC on August 6, 1996. This regulation PREEMPTS local zoning ordinances and Homeowner Association covenants and restrictions on DBS dish antennas. This rule was required by Congress in the 1996 Telecommunications Act. Some HOAs have been fighting to keep restriction rights by threatening court action on tenants with dish antennas, disputing that a dish antenna is installed in a common area, calling the air space above the homeowner's roof where the dish antenna is installed, the common area. Congress is on the side of the homeowner in this matter.
Q: If the viewer lives outside of the contiguous 48 states, what size dish antenna do they need?
A: For questions like these, 1-800-333-DISH (3474) to locate a retailer near you. Customer Service will assist the viewer in getting the correct size dish antenna. If the user lives in Canada please call Bell ExpressVu @ 1-888-759-3474. If the user resides in the Caribbean, please call 1-877-444-4759.
Q: If the viewer has trouble after installing the DISH Network System and cannot get the dish antenna tuned in to the signal, what should the user do?
A: If the viewer sees a red bar graph, this means the viewer is not acquiring a strong enough signal from the satellite or are pointing it at the wrong satellite. The viewer must ensure that all the conditions for proper satellite configuration are met: The dish antenna must be correctly pointed at the proper satellite (Verify the azimuth and elevation angles using the information program on the website). Secondly, be sure there are no obstructions between the dish antenna and satellite, for example, ltall trees, that might block the signal. Third, confirm that all the cable is properly connected from the dish antenna all the way to the receiver. If the customer is still experiencing problems, contact the Technical Support Department by calling 1-800-333-DISH (3474) and provide the technical team with the specifics of the user’s situation. They will provide competent Customer Service in setting up the user’s Dish Network System.
